Honest Event Reviews : Mindspark 2015 (College of Engineering, Pune)

MindSpark is the national level annual technical fest of one of the most sought after colleges in India, College of Engineering, Pune which stepped into its ninth edition this year! After witnessing the entire event personally we really got just two words for it… Freaking Awesome!

Never ever personally witnessed a college tech fest at this scale. Certainly the biggest in the city and probably one of the biggest in the entire country. To make it even more awesome, TATA Consultancy Services in association with Gabriel were the title sponsors this year. With 51 events spanned over a variety of disciplines, this certainly was a perfect platform for curious minds to showcase their talents.

The theme ‘Exploring Unexplored Timelines’ itself spoke multitudes about what to expect from this amazing fest. The brightest spark of the entire festival spanned over three days were the keynote lectures by eminent personalities from various fields of occupation. This year, the audience was blessed to get an opportunity to get inspired by great personalities like Dr Anil Kakodkar, Mr Prithiviraj Chavan and Dr. S K Shivakumar.

MindSpark 2015 was inaugurated by Dr Anil Kakodkar, former chairman of BARC and graced by various other eminent personalities from prestigious companies like Tata Consultancy Services, Atlas Copco , Premier and Walter P Moore.

The first day of MindSpark’15 ended with an inspiring keynote lecture by the Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Prithviraj Chavan and an energizing performance by the very melodious Mr. Avdhoot Gupte.
Mr. Prithviraj Chavan said

“The key to a better future, better India is emphasizing on building a knowledge based economy.”

The final keynote was delivered by Dr. S K Shivakumar, former director of ISRO. In this highly informative session the process of making and launching of Chandrayan-1 came into light. He also spoke about how their latest project , the most economical interplanetary expedition – Mars Orbiter Mission is a class apart which made India the first country to reach the Martian orbit in its maiden attempt.

MindSpark’15 celebrated 11th October, The International Day of the Girl Child with a social initiative PAAKHI, another brainchild of the team. A girl executes numerous roles in her life and never gives up. She has within her the courage, the dominance, the simplicity and the love that can conquer the whole world.

MindSpark’15 also had a special section dedicated to all the painters and artists. The grandeur of the Main Heritage Building was uplifted by the display of the wonderful sketches, paintings, caricatures, crafts and was a major attraction of the festival. COEP’s very own Arts And Crafts team brilliantly showed their gift to the crowd.

Champions don’t become champions when they win an event, but in minutes, hours and days they spend preparing for it. After three days of hard work towards one GOAL the most perseverant of the lot were Government Polytechnic Pune, Walchand, Pune Institute of Computer Technology, AISSMS and Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University. After passing through gruelling rounds Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological Institute emerged as the champions proving the fact that diamonds shine the brightest when under maximum pressure. Government Polytechnic, Pune was christened as the most enthusiastic college.

The chief guest of the Valedictory Ceremony was the multi-talented Mrs Shital Mahajan, an Indian extreme sportsperson, skydiver and the holder of five world records 14 National records in the sport. She engaged the crowd in the very interesting story of her life and urged the crowd to follow their hearts. She also showed the audience videos of her first ever sky dive from the North Pole and received a standing ovation.

Campus Times Pune being the media partner for the event had set up their own photo booth which was well received over the span of two days. Hundreds of people flocked at the booth to try out an array of funky props that were kept out in the stall. Click Here to check out all the photo booth pics.

Summary : MindSpark is already well-known in the city for its consistent quality and continued success. The sight of participants thronged at each and every event, was enough to infer another grand year in the history of MindSpark. All In all, with a footfall of around 12k+, MindSpark 2015 certainly fulfilled its aim of Igniting Our World.
