A Model United Nations, or an MUN, is an academic conference simulating the United Nations. Delegates are given positions of power where the responsibility to shape the future lies in their hands. It acts as a great platform for participants to learn diplomacy, and about international relations and therefore cultivates holistically developed global citizens; something that is vital in the leaders of tomorrow.
With globalization currently at its peak, especially since the onset of the pandemic, countries have been able to transcend all geographical, as well as geo-political boundaries and emerge into a single global village. An MUN gives students the occasion to do the same. It gives delegates the opportunity to hone their problem solving, research, speaking, writing, debating, teamwork, and critical thinking skills. In executing the aforementioned, the delegates automatically become more aware about the happenings around the world. The debate that takes place at the Conference serves to further pique the delegates’ interest on such matters, as well as enables them to gather and comprehend the perspectives of different nations on the same matter given the resources at their disposal, and their position in the international scheme of things.
