In our busy lives where many of us hardly track our expenses, an innovative and intuitive solution which helps us track and manage our expenses automatically, has been developed by Megharaj Birje, a second year management student of Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) of University of Mumbai and his team of five, all in their mid 20’s.
Explaining about his start-up, named FINNIE, Megharaj mentions how the idea emerged when he faced difficulties in tracking and managing expenses out of his pocket money. “It was a daunting task to be disciplined enough to track expenses for the whole month”, says Megharaj. Being a frequent online shopper, he was pained by huge amount of time required to find a reliable, working coupon / offer while recharging, shopping or ordering food online. He noted that, this was because it involved hopping from one coupon website to another in search of the best coupon.
He discussed these difficulties with his friends and a former colleague at Firstcry.com. The two formed a team to work on ideas to ease these difficulties and as a result, developed FINNIE. FINNIE is a mobile application which helps you save money by tracking and managing your expenses automatically based on the SMS received from banks. You can track your ATM withdrawals and account balances for all your bank accounts with a single app. It does not require linking up bank accounts or any password and works solely on SMS received from the bank. It is synonymous to a single digital bank passbook.
FINNIE also helps you save money while online shopping, recharging or ordering food. To facilitate this, Team FINNIE has tied up with online shopping websites like Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, Paytm, Freecharge and many more.
FINNIE is available for download on Google Play Store for free. It is a power packed application; sized less than 4 MBs. This is an incredible feat considering the features and benefits it offers.
When asked about the challenges he faced in establishing his start-up while pursuing a management degree simultaneously, Megharaj said, “Challenges are an integral part of the entire process. What’s important is how we face challenges with courage and conviction. Right from forming a strong core team which shares the same vision as you, to managing your studies in college, it was an uphill task.”
